Another day, another Tesla recall. This time, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) notified owners of nearly 700,000 Tesla vehicles that they have a problem with the warning light for the tire pressure monitoring system, as reported by the Associated Press.
This recall affects 2024 Cybertruck, 2017-2025 Model 3 and 2020-2025 Model Y vehicles. NHTSA says the warning light for the tire pressure monitoring system may not remain illuminated between drives.
Tesla says it will send over-the-road (OTR) updates to vehicles affected by the warning light issue. Notification letters are expected to be sent to owners on February 15, 2025.
Last year has seen a few Tesla recalls and OTRs. NHTSA filed seven recalls for the Cybertruck last year to address problems involving the rear-view camera, faulty windshield wipers and loose trunk beds. Tesla released an over-the-air update in June for 1.8 million vehicles, including select 2021-2024 Model 3, S and X vehicles and 2020-2024 Model Y vehicles, to fix hoods that can come loose during driving if closed incorrectly.
Tesla has reported its first drop in annual deliveries. Deliveries for 2024 total about 1.78 million, but the company delivered 1.81 million vehicles in 2023. The company’s shares fell as much as seven percent following the news, but have since rebounded a few points. This comes after similar news from the first quarter of 2024, but that was for just one quarter.
Deliveries showed a slight jump in Q4, with 495,000 deliveries this year and 484,000 in 2023. However, according to reporting from CNBC, analysts had predicted a much stronger final quarter. These analysts expected fourth-quarter deliveries to be around 506,000. Tesla doesn’t publish actual sales numbers in the US, so these delivery metrics are the closest we get.
Numbers have also decreased in Europe, with 2024 falling 14 percent compared to last year. This is according to registration data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association.
