After announcing it would furlough 82 employees this week, EV startup Canoo sent emails to remaining employees informing them that they were being placed on “mandatory unpaid leave” and would be locked out of the company’s systems at the end of the day on Friday, TechCrunch reports.
The emails, viewed by TechCrunch, reportedly said the furloughs would last until at least the end of the year. Canoo announced on Wednesday that it was shutting down its Oklahoma factories “while it works to finalize the capital needed to grow its operations going forward.”
Canoo has faced financial difficulties, lawsuits and the departure of several executives over the past year. It previously announced it was furloughing 30 employees this fall.
Canoo’s Wednesday announcement said the company is now in “advanced discussions with various capital sources.”
In a statement about the cuts, Cano said, “We regret having to furlough our employees, especially during the holidays, but we have no choice at this time. We hope to be able to get them back to work soon.”
The latest MacBook Air packs a lot of punch: not only is it our top pick for the best laptop available now, but we also consider it the best laptop for college students and the best MacBook for most people. Apple hasn’t changed much in the latest version, but that’s expected since the previous entry was the most significant redesign in nearly a decade.
The new 13-inch MacBook Air has a faster M3 chip, as well as the ability to run dual external monitors (but only with the lid closed) and support for Wi-Fi 6E. There’s also a fingerprint free finish for the black “Midnight” model that actually works!
It’s hard to improve on a laptop we previously considered nearly perfect, but a new chip certainly helps. The M3 processor is about 20 percent faster than the M2 for both single-core and multi-core tasks, and it offers support for real-time ray tracing as well as a significant GPU bump. Battery life is best in class, with enough battery to let you run multiple tasks without needing a charger Can work for days.
It also has one of the best keyboards we’ve ever seen on a laptop – it’s wonderfully tactile and responsive – and the trackpad is huge and comfortable to the touch.
Even the speakers are much better than other systems. The only big drawback against the MacBook Air is that it only has a MagSafe charging port and two USB-C connectors on its left side. Charging becomes a little more difficult if your plug only reaches the right side of the machine.
But hey, at least there’s still a 3.5mm headphone jack, which has become increasingly difficult to find on ultra-thin notebooks these days.
